I think the true problem with that comemnt is that it shows to which degree much of Student Affairs is spoken about in terms of platitudes.Simply put, we as SA professionals speak with such grandeur and positivity that it comes off as either obnoxious or as if we're mocking the profession itself.Be altruistic. Be positive. Just be realistic. We ALL wish the best for our students, but we can and should only do so much to push them along.
