Some college students thought they had found nirvana thanks the high-powered, super-fast "Internet2" network on college campuses  (LA Times:  "Users connect to each other through Internet2, an accelerated version of the Internet that reaches more than 300 universities, government agencies and other institutions".)  After all, according to the Associated Press, you could download "The Matrix" in 30 seconds (Keanu says:  "whoa").

Much of this file sharing is enabled by a company called i2Hub.  The Washington Post says about i2Hub in a Wednesday story...

I2hub was founded by Wayne Chang, a former executive at Napster Inc., which launched the music-swapping revolution before the entertainment industry forced it to shut down.

Yesterday, Chang said I2hub is similar to AOL Instant Messenger or Internet Relay Chat communications programs in that it permits an exchange of data between users: "We do not host any offending files on our servers," Chang said, "nor do we have an index of files."

Yes, nice secondary liability defense.  Right now, though, it's the students using i2Hub looking for a defense.  the RIAA and MPAA will anounce tomorrow lawsuits against hundreds of students exchanging files on the campus network.
