Lots of people who search for "Yahoo government affairs" or "Google lobbyist", and the like, end up here. So, it's only fair that we toss out these two tidbits...
John Scheibel, longtime Yahoo! DC lead and VP of public policy, is leaving the company after more than seven years. In an email note today, he wrote that he is getting his Masters in Secondary Education and plans to eventually teach. Here's a story on Scheibel joining Yahoo! in 1998.
Google has hired former Clinton national security speechwriter Bob Boorstin to join its corporate communications team. He'll be based in Washington, DC. Boorstin has more than 20 years of impressive experience and was most recently the Senior Vice President for National Security and International Policy at the Center for American Progress. Tech Daily(sub) said about Boorstin recently:
Boorstin helped found the Center for American Progress and, among other things, co-wrote the center's national security strategy, which was dubbed "Integrated Power." The paper offered ideas on how the federal government could better coordinate national security. One idea in particular -- re-examining visa policies that have slowed the inflow of scholars, scientists and students to the United States -- is of interest to the technology industry.
Anyhow, I prefer Google. I hope it has a great future (and wonderful present). :)
